Precise labelling accuracy with maximum production performance

Granby Limited is a small, Dublin based, family run, meat company. Employing 65 people and operating out of two adjacent sites, Granby has been producing their renowned sausages, burgers and Black & White puddings for almost 90 years.

Granby has been a customer of ESPERA since the early 1990’s utilising ESPERAs weigh price labelling solutions. From Moses I systems, through Mosses II and now taking advantage of the simplicity and benefits that the new Nova platform brings.

Granby has recently purchased 2 ESPERA NOVA ES-R automatic weigh price and check weigher systems, equipped with top, bottom and total printers to complement their retail tray pack products and a further 5 ES-M manual weigh price labelling systems for bulk packed products for the food service market.

The challenges have always been keeping current with new labelling requirements, accuracy of label placement on packs, the print quality, ease of use for operators and overall line throughput and efficiency.

Whilst the previous ESPERA equipment ES5000’s and ES3000’s got the job done, this new NOVA generation brings huge advantages and further efficiencies by way of extremely accurate label placement on packs, easier to operate from the users point of view and much more flexibility in terms of label design functionality and management of the information required to be printed. Reliability has been further enhanced by way of on-screen diagnostics which clearly identify any issues and suggest remedies to the operators which enhances overall line throughput.

Granby uses a wide range of labels varying in shapes from round to oval, square to rectangular with varying orientations or degrees of rotation when applying to the packs. All of which can easily be accommodated on the new Nova ES-R systems.

The automatic machines either operate in fixed weight or variable weight modes with check weighing functionality available when required. The Nova system allows the creation of start of run questions for the operators to enter relevant production data such as batch numbers, beef traceability information, or any data Granby wish to capture prior or during production runs.

The ease of label web loading and label reel changes is of particular benefit to Granby’s production, given the frequency of label changes and short production run requirements.

Reliability is also key to an efficient production process and the new Nova systems improve further on ESPERAs already strong reliability.

Granby rely on Inspiron Systems (ESPERA agent UK & IRL) to provide support through remote connectivity via the internet and on site annual visit for servicing. Inspiron´s wealth of knowledge and guidance on ESPERAs systems has been of huge importance and of great benefit to Granby to leverage this new Nova technology and further drive efficiencies at Granby.

“All here in Granby (management & operators) are extremely impressed with the new Nova systems which have advanced our labelling capability to a much higher level than we had before. We look forward to the continued development of the NOVA platform and believe we have chosen the best partners to meet our current and any further labelling requirements into the future.” Eoin Kavanagh – Director Granby´s says.
