"Nice to Meat" - High quality meat products automatically weighed and labelled with ESPERA

Mischa Schmitz, Account Manager at Espera Netherlands, regularly visits his customers. In front of the impressive building of his customer "Nice to Meat" in Almere (Netherlands), he realizes how fast this company has already grown.

On the conference room wall, the text "Meat is Art" is displayed. "This makes it more than clear that "Nice to Meat" has a passion for meat," confirms Fred de Blanken, operations director at "Nice to Meat." "From Japanese Wagyu to Dutch MRIJ from Piet van den Berg. We offer the best meat from the finest breeds the world has to offer. Chefs can really make a difference with our meat," Fred de Blanken proudly reports.

The meat from “Nice to Meat”, which the company imports exclusively, cuts, packs and labels itself, is more expensive than meat from other butchers in the catering industry, but this results to the high quality of the product, according to Fred. "Animal protection, the environment and taste are our top priorities.” And to guarantee these three pillars, it costs money. But you can really taste the difference," Fred emphasizes.

High-quality meat is portioned to order by experienced and professional butchers. The subsequently packaged meat products are then weighed fully automatically by an ESPERA weigh-price labeller and provided with all the the product relevant information. In this process, all necessary product data such as price, best-before date, or even the origin of the meat is applied to the package via a label "That was different once, too," Mischa Schmitz remembers well. In the meeting room, Fred de Blanken and the account manager reminisce about the cooperation between "Nice to Meat" and ESPERA, which now goes back around ten years. "In 2011, we installed a manual weight-price labelling system from ESPERA in the butchery of "Nice to Meat" for the first time. At that time, this system consisted of a separate terminal, a stand-alone scale and a single printer."

In the years that followed, both companies grew equally. Today, weigh-price labelling at "Nice to Meat" is fully automated. "They have now chosen a compact labelling system from our ES 5000 series in combination with a fully automatic high-performance ES 7000 machine," Mischa Schmitz explains the current equipment. "We have grown quickly. Every year by up to 20 %," explains Fred de Blanken. "Less than ten years ago, we moved into this building, and it is already too small. We have plans to double the size of our space, but due to the Corona pandemic and its impact on our customers, we've had to temporarily postpone it."

"Nice to Meat" has become one of the largest catering butcher shops in the Netherlands and is therefore highly dependent on the catering industry. "Many of the Michelin-star restaurants come to "Nice to Meat" because of the very good and consistent quality, as do almost all of the large hotels," he said. "Fortunately, these industries will soon be able to reopen their doors as well," de Blanken hopes, looking hopefully to the upcoming easing of Corona restrictions. "Then we'll be able to supply high-quality products at the usual level again, chefs will be able to create outstanding dishes with these products, and guests will be able to enjoy our top-quality products again."
